I’m going to be very curious to see if any of the corporate games like Vans, MacLauren, etc. If I were a more tinfoil hat type I’d be seriously wondering if purging the platform as much as possible of ‘unofficial’ games/content is the actual endgame. I don’t have a lot of confidence at this point that when this is implemented for the other assets that it will get any better. The worst is that regardless of upload limits, there is no current plan or timeline to enable any of the audio files that will be privated back to public. On top of that, they said they’d be experimenting with numbers so no guarantee anyone will get the number of uploads that they currently have. Even so, it’s clear that most any audio over 5.5 seconds is getting auto-rejected.ĭevEx doesn’t seem to matter either which is nuts - I’m seeing large scale devs with multiple titles and millions of engagements getting fewer uploads than devs with smaller scale experiences and no DevEx. I’ve seen the 10 -> 100 incentive for getting verified but even that is arbitrary as there are unverified devs getting 100 or 2000. That and an almost-certain partnering with Facebook(Meta) for an official VR app (probably regular ‘experiences’ as well.)

It’s an interesting concept but that’s a glimpse into what the future of Roblox looks like.

Design your Vans in game, and place a real-life order and you’ll get real personalized Van’s at your doorstep. The Van’s game is really well done - but they have integrated in-game purchases with real-life purchases. In other words, in my opinion - it looks like the end of diverse and imaginative player creations and the eventual takeover of experiences by well-paying clients who want to use Roblox to sell stuff. At the last dev conference there was a lot of talk from higher ups about the exciting plans to build the Roblox Metaverse (yes, they used that word unfortunately) into a marketing-rich environment. The audio takedown is just the tip of the iceberg that is getting ready to crash-land into Roblox.Ĭan’t say I didn’t see it coming. The catalog will be part of it as well, I imagine. Think of how many games out there have asset references to copyrighted material - even tribute games: characters, structures, clothing, gear, etc. I’m certain it will be applied to models, textures, decals - pretty much anything that incorporates whole or in-part any copyrighted material will included.Īudio was just the start.
